Happy Birthday Dad/Grandpa!Dad turned 83 yesterday - and a spry 83 at that, I might add! He is a remarkable person - having had heart surgery and both knees replaced - he just keeps on going. As John Cameron Swayze used to say, he "takes a licking and keeps on ticking." He has lived by himself since Ma died in 1997, but has managed to make it look easy when we all know how much he still misses her (because we all miss her, too). He is extraordinary and we are all grateful to have him in our lives!
This was a "hat" birthday! This hat represents the USS Minotaur, the ship he was on in the Navy during WWII. The ship is long gone, so it is really special that Bob was able to find the hat! How neat is that??
Chip gave Grandpa this hat - perfect for a "died in the wool" UK fan. The UK lights up - blinks actually. Pretty clever!
Of all his gifts, I don't think it would be exaggerating to say that Dad/Grandpa would say that the best gift is having all the local family onhand to celebrate. Despite difficult schedules, everyone managed to be there. And, for those of you out-of-towners, hopefully you can enjoy the party vicariously through the photos!
Happy 83! We love you!

Well, it's not quite as fun just looking at the photos, but I guess it'll have to do! I'm glad you put them up here.

I'll be home in a few weeks.

I agree that having all his family that could get there around was probably the best gift of all~
