More of DC, Day OneThis is Able, a rhesus monkey, part of the Able-Baker Jupiter space mission in 1959. Able & Baker returned from their mission unscathed, but Able died 4 days later from anesthetic administered during surgery to remove the electrodes implanted before the space flight. Someone had the forethought to stuff Able and make the monkey part of the Smithsonian exhibit. Incidentally, Baker lived until 1984.
The Amelia Earhart exhibit.
Amelia Earhart's plane in which she flew across the Atlantic in 1932 - then flew across the United States the same year.
The Spirit of St. Louis - no explanation needed. :)
Thermal image of Natalie and Me. :)
Natalie and I both took turns "flying" a Cessna. :)
While we were at the Air and Space Museum, we watched a film Celestial Collisions, narrated by Robert Redford in the Albert Einstein Planetarium. Very fascinating! The entire museum was a lot of fun!

You learned a lot. Of all you posted, I remember the Spirit of St. Louis from when we were there as kids. It looks the same as I remember it. :)

That was a busy first day!

I remember seeing the Spirit of St. Louis, too, from when I was there in high school...
