The Conclusion of DC Day One Our next stop was the White House. You can't imagine the walk we undertook to get that far!!
You cannot get very close anymore - this photo was taken with the telephoto.

This photo was taken without the telephoto lens.
After that, we went to the Old Post Office, then to the new post office to buy stamps . . .
Then, on to the Reagan Building where we ate supper (in the food court).
Finally, before we caught the Metro to go back to the hotel (via the airport), we took a walk to the Washington Monument - an other hike and a half!

We arrived at the airport too late for the shuttle and had to wait for nearly an hour for the next one. Look who we saw in the airport. Actually, McCain was really in town speaking at a hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue - we could tell by the unhappy protesters out front!

By the time we got back to the Sheraton, we were exhausted! But, we had a full and fun first day and looked forward to the next!

To be continued . . . .
